Hello friends!

What you can expect in this post:

The Joseph project explained

in a recent video in German

Back in Tanzania

We have been back in Tanzania since the beginning of August. And we are incredibly grateful to God for that. We have experienced his care in a special way over the last year. He strengthened us as a family and encouraged us several times to leave the country again as a whole family.

Saying goodbye to Germany was not easy for us. But Rebekah also had tears in her eyes because she was happy to finally be home again. “It's strange,” she said, “I thought everything would feel different or new, but it feels so normal here, like in Germany.” Yes, that's what it's like to have a home in two worlds.

and karate

All three children have recently expressed their joy about the opportunities here in the country: Samuel built a suitable cement ramp for his scooter, he now regularly goes to karate with his friend in the evenings, and he goes to basketball training on Saturdays . Rebekka has also started karate and we are still looking for a way for Elia to play football. Samuel and Rebekka each received a puppy, which they look after diligently.

"Finally really school!"

We are in the process of building a new schoolhouse where the children can work on their homeschool programs more privately. The children can hardly wait to no longer be able to do school in the children's room or living room, but soon in the new school building. Thank you to everyone who donated money for this project on my 50th birthday. Elijah will then be in the third grade, Rebekah in the sixth grade and Samuel in the ninth grade. From mid-September to mid-December, a couple, Anna and Tim, who have both completed their teaching studies, are with us to help us start the new school year. A young woman wants to come from December.

We still need a second learning aid for our children from December/January, and additional helpers for the whole of 2024. If you know someone who knows someone... who could help us for 3 months or even longer, please advertise for us. A lot depends on the issue of school care so that the service in which God has placed us here can continue well. Thank you for your help in finding learning aids in the past.

If you know someone, please forward the video “Tutoring abroad”. Thank you!

Five workshops among the Sangu people

At the end of March/beginning of April I flew to Tanzania to be with them Acting for the Josef Project

Of the participants, seven people entrusted their lives to Jesus. One of the seven is also an actor in the Josef play. 25 players for the Sangu audio Bible were distributed to participants who would like to start Bible groups in their villages. In addition to the 27 Bible groups among the Sangu people founded in 2022, more groups will be added this year.

At the beginning of July I was back in Tanzania to lead two more workshops. My Ethnoarts assistant Mwasandube has them Leader of children's groups trained so that they can prepare the children in their villages for the performances of the Joseph play.

23 came to the second workshop Singers, musicians and dancers together to compose new songs in their traditional art forms, all based on the story of Joseph. These will then be performed in the Josef play. For some artists it was their first time at a church event.

Every morning I taught from the Bible; Once there was a report from an old pastor about how he had abandoned the tradition of making immensely expensive sacrifices to the ancestral spirits and turned to Jesus Christ.

The participants watched the Joseph film in Swahili and the Jesus film in the Sangu language. We compared the life of Joseph to the life of Jesus. The participants made very interesting observations, for example that both were betrayed or sold for money. Both said no to sin. They clung to God and stood boldly in their convictions. But what was special about Jesus also became clear, for example his eternal sonship with God, his complete sinlessness, his sacrifice on the cross for all people in the world and his victory over death in his resurrection. Based on the Josef film, the participants had several ideas from which ten songs were created.

We also spoke intensively about the difficulties that the participants perceive in their own culture. A young man reported the injustice that had happened to an old man in his village. He had owned 27 hectares of land but was wrongly taken to court and given a prison sentence. Because he could no longer work his land, it was confiscated.

The injustice that happened to Joseph, but also many other themes in the Joseph story, can be found in people's lives and now, with very practical applications, in the song lyrics. Even while working on the texts, in-depth conversations arose. I find these workshops particularly valuable because relationships and trust grow and the participants spend a whole week engaging with the Bible and topics that are relevant to them in a creative way.

This in itself is a great blessing for the participants of these workshops. After we returned to Tanzania, the last one-week workshop of the year took place in mid-August, the last intensive session with the actors. new text

After our return to Tanzania, the last one-week workshop of the year was in mid-August. the last intensive pass with the actors. Some had learned their lines really well, others needed quite a bit of pushing, but by the end of the week we had rehearsed all 29 scenes of the play several times. Each day there were longer devotions, all based on Paul's remarks on spiritual armor, Ephesians 6:10-20. The actors are ready and would be very happy if we could go to all the villages they come from.

An urgent request for financial help

Now the big tour with the Josef play and with all these moving songs in the art forms of the Sangu is just around the corner. We postponed the 12-village tour until October because we only have the money for 4-5 villages so far.

That's why we dare to ask you especially for donations for the Josef Project this time. Now it's time!

Here a very recent video. Damaris, Sangu Bible translator Chapaulinge and I paint a bigger picture of the Joseph Project. We show moving videos from the beginning to now. You will get insights into the workshops and the family calendar, which we have been working on for two years now. We also explain why things have become financially tight. If you would like a short version of this for a church service, please write me one E-mail, I'll send a link immediately.

In some places we have already reduced the high budget for the tour through the villages and, due to a lack of money, we have also developed new ideas on how we can advertise the Josef play more cheaply. But we would still like to ask for a one-time special donation.

The amount we need for one of the remaining 7 villages is 2697 euros. This amount also includes the costs of advertising, printing 2,000 family calendars, dress rehearsals, travel costs, accommodation, food and a fee of 3.50 euros per day for each artist. This is not an attractive amount, the artists have to show commitment to take part in this project, but it should compensate a little for their loss of income. So in total we still need just under 19,000 euros. We hope that we will reach between 500 and 1,500 people depending on the village, with a total of around 10,000 viewers, that is 10 percent of all Sangu, who could soon know that there are Bible listening groups in their language, and who are potential buyers of the family calendar or even a Bible.

How can I donate?

Thanks and intercession

Thanks to

- For the great help of God that we have experienced as a family over the last year.

- For loyal donors who have given small and large amounts regularly over many years.

- For faithful prayers who have strengthened our backs and asked for many an open door.

intercession

- For a good start to school now in September.

- That the finances for the performances in the 12 Sangu villages come together.

- That God prepares the hearts of the Sangu and the Word of God falls on fertile ground. A few weeks ago I had a visit from the Sangu chief. The two of us went out to eat and he told me how much magic affects his people. Pray that God's light will shine powerfully through His Word and Spirit among the Sangu people in the coming weeks.

- That all final preparations for the tour are successful.

- Tour dates: 1st-6th October: dress rehearsals before the first tour; 7th-9th and 11-13. September: Performances in 6 villages from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; 22-23 October: dress rehearsals before the second tour; October 24th-26th, 28th-29th and 31st: Performances in 6 villages, each from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

- Preservation, health, unity and experiences of God's presence for all artists and musicians and their families throughout the tour. Also that no artist is canceled.

- We also need more donations to our donation account 306090, as our needs in Tanzania have increased and our reserves from the one year in Germany will no longer last for long. Please pray that God will call people to support our ministry on a regular basis.

- Pray that God would guide us and use us for his joy and glory.
